Nature

San Francisco del Monte de Oro has very particular geographic characteristics, is located in a valley locked up between two hills of different height and geographically different cords, therefore its flora and fauna are very varied according to each zone. Having crossed the place is possible to find in a little distance different species of animals, plants and trees.

Flora

The mountain zone is made up by an arboreal layer of more than 20 native species, which besides to offer shelter and protection to the fauna also it is an important tourist attractive. Also, this plants and trees, are holders of the mountain ground avoiding the pluvial and aeolian erosion, that is the main cause of avalanches and alluviums in the steep skirts of the mountain ranges.

The most representative units are: molle dulce (lithraea melleoides), chilca melosa (flourencia campestris), coco (fagara coco), molle colorado o morado (schinus fasciculatus), manzano de campo (ruprechtia apetala) whereas the hills, the mount foot and the level zone are populated by : algarrobo blanco (prosopis alba) algarrobo negro (prosopis nigra) called “tacu” in quechua; the carob bean is a very popular tree in the folclore of our zone because its fruit becomes “patay” also called bread of the Indian and the metheglin, a drink of native origin. Also there is plenty of: peperina (bistropogun mollis), poleo (lippea turbinata) manzanilla de la sierra o inca yuyo (virginlae excelsis), yerba del pájaro (hedeona multiflora), calaguala (acrostischun conforme) it is a species of fern of Peruvian origin, in addition to the beard of the stone also we found 8 varieties of ferns, 15 salvias, 4 varieties of mints, 3 species of orquídeas and at least 7 species of claveles of the air.

Fauna

"CHICHARRA"

The greater fauna is represented by an abundant variety of mammals; there is pumas (felis concolor), cat of the mount (felis geoffroyi) guina cat or Colorado, inhabits the forests of the humid gorges a distant relative of the kangaroo, the only marsupial of our mountain ranges the overa weasel (didelphys albiventris), we found in addition sacha goat, “sacha” is a voice quechua that means "similar to" (apple guazoubira), the gray fox and the colored fox, the Creole and common hare; wild boars and pecari, cuis (a rodent similar to the conejito of India) and the rabbit of woods. The "Rey del Bosque" belongs to Nature and it's where it should live.

There is in addition a great variety of insects and invertebrates and in some rivers you will find rainbow trouts, at the moment threatened by the furtive fishing and the recent droughts. All these specimens coexist in perfect symbiosis with means that lives, any alteration of this means on the part of the man breaks that balance and the chain is destroyed with direct and indirect negative consequences.
