Banda Sur
Municipality of San Francisco. Centennial street to the South. It is the primitive nucleus of the population establishment of San Francisco, that soon was called “of Monte de Oro”. The River San Francisco, divides the valley in two bands: the south and the north. The South Band extends to the right border of the river until the mountain range and conserves that rustic aspect, with his modest orchards and houses of adobe and constructions that date from century XVIII. It is a zone very hoisted with extensive lots. In the Eastern flank of the area it was the property where Sarmiento founded the first school. In the western flank still is the Chapel San Francisco de Asís, who was the center of the small village, that dates from century XVIII.

First School of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento
It is the reference that identifies to San Francisco at National level, is the first school where Sarmiento just by 15 years taught the first lessons to inhabitants of the place of different ages around 1825. This historical lot is located in South Band, to few minutes of the center of the town. Declared National Monument the 16 of September of 1941.
You can read the letter where Sarmiento writes to the governor of San Luis requesting to him by the conservation of this building of great cultural and historical interest to national and Latin American level. (only in spanish) |
Museum Rosenda Quiroga
It is a house of colonial aspect, where the teacher Rosenda Quiroga lived illustrious, she participated actively in the social and educative life of San Francisco. Between the last decades of century XIX and the first years of the last century, in this house there is all the elements of the time (clothes, furniture, etc.) like also important writings and documents made by the teacher. A wonderful attention in charge of Liliana makes of the visit a unique and memorable experience.

Museum My School Counts its History
Located in the old Normal school Sarmiento, which worked there from 1911 to 1993. This school, training of educational marked an historical landmark, pride for the town since such they are distributed in different points from the country. In this museum is the past everything but recent of this prestigious institution. |
Church San Francisco de Asís and Plaza Sarmiento
The old Church of South Band, dates from around 1772, is consecrated to San Francisco de Asís, saint of the town in whose honor the celebration is celebrated the 4 of October. This temple keeps all history from the town since the construction of the same is closely tie with the birth at that time of the villa of San Francisco del Monte de Oro. The plaza was delimited by himself, Sarmiento next to the first streets of the present South Band. According to history in this plaza around 1834 they would have been condemned until death and shot two criminals brought from Carolina by causes that are not known. |
Church Sacred Family
Constructed in 1870, it is consecrated to the sacred family and next to the Pringles plaza they form the centric zone. In this Church the rest of Monsignor Luis Zupanzic rest (of Yugoslav origin), who contributed enormously in the religious life of the town during many years of the last century.

Popular library Juan de Dios Escobar
Another institution that plays an important role in the cultural life of San Francisco, is this Popular Library founded by Juan de Dios Escobar the 30 of October of 1910. Here we can find historical books of all type, emphasizing in special a collection with the complete biography of the life of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento. |
